Miles Jesu’s communities in western Ukraine are composed of members of the Greek Catholic Ukrainian rite, a rite of the Roman Catholic Church whose rituals and discipline find roots in the liturgy of St. John Chrysostom and other influences of the East.

In the city of Bortnyky, Miles Jesu operated a home and school for orphaned and semi-orphaned boys. The grounds also provided an orchard and a barn to house cows, pigs, chickens and rabbits. A nearby crop field was used to grow potatoes, wheat, barley, oats and various root vegetables. This style of living meant they were mostly self-sufficient with regard to food; surplus was sold to local people.

Due to complex situations in Ukraine and limited manpower, Miles Jesu no longer operates the Boys’ Home. We do, however, cooperate with the current director, providing some assistance with the school.

Generous donations from many benefactors over the years made a tremendous difference in the lives of dozens of young men. We deeply appreciate the support and praise God for what we were able to accomplish with the assistance of so many generous people.
