Dear Friend in Christ,

“Our Soup Kitchen in L’Viv, Ukraine, began 28 years ago. The city of L’Viv recently changed its rules for using public transportation, so it has become more difficult for some people who visit our Soup Kitchen to get to us, especially the homeless,” reports Zoriana, MJ, director of the Miles Jesu Soup Kitchen. “But, in spite of the challenges, about 50 people come to us for a hot lunch every time we are open. In the cold season (it was often -17ºC in January which is equivalent to 2º F) this is very important because most of our guests are older people whose pensions are insufficient on which to live. During the war, with food prices rising significantly, it has become even more difficult.”

“Many of the people who come to us are also very lonely people so, while waiting to get their hot food, they have the opportunity to chat with each other. Some of them, who are coming from remote parts of the city, travel a long distance. They come in spite of air raid sirens sounding and the rockets that sometimes fly into our region. We, the workers at the Soup Kitchen, also work during air raid alarms to prepare hot lunches so we can make sure we have the meals to give them.”
