Dear Friend in Christ,

Swach Barat!” exclaims Fr. Thomas, MJ, from our Boys’ Home in Sirsi, India. “That means, ‘keep our country (India) clean and green!’

“Here at the Boys’ Home in Sirsi we are all doing our little part to keep our land clean and green.

On a regular basis we go out on the road to clean up the litter. It’s an uphill battle because the attitude of Swach Barat! will take time to sink in. Yet we continue to collaborate with others here who have caught the spirit. After all, ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness.”

“Another important part of our formation program is instilling in our children the Christian duty to preserve God’s wonderful gift of creation. Also, since we live close to a forest area, our policy is: for every tree we must cut down, we plant ten more to replace it. We are reaping the benefits of our labors having planted over 500 trees: coconuts, mangoes, cashews, Jack fruits, guavas, tamarinds, bread fruits, bananas, papayas, arekas, chikkus, custard apple, etc.”
