“Here, in India, the boy child is preferred.” Fr. Thomas, MJ, tells us. “About 12 years ago in a small village a Hindu woman was pregnant again. It would be her fourth child – the others were girls. The woman’s husband warned her that if the next one was another girl he would kill her. (Such threats are not taken lightly here.) Sure enough, it was a baby girl!
The mother was desperate to save the child and eventually put the infant in a church where our friend, Fr. Santosh, found the wee one. He took the sickly child home to his mother who has been caring for Jyoti ever since. Amma is old now and needed help to support the almost teen-aged girl. Miles Jesu has found a place for her nearby our home and is providing for her living and school expenses ($600 per annum).”
