MANY SAY:
“All religions are the same.” “God wills all religions.” “The Catholic Faith is just one religion among many.”
BUT, THE CHURCH TEACHES:
No, all religions are not the same, for truth and error are not the same; faith and unbelief are not the same. God is not divided. He revealed only one religion. We either believe the religion He has revealed or we don’t. There is no middle way. Christ said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father but through me.” (Jn. 14:6)
From the very beginning of mankind there has been one true religion because of the promise of a Redeemer that God made to Adam and Eve. The one religion that God revealed to the Jews as the “chosen people” was imperfect but foreshadowed the coming of the perfect religion to be established by the Son of God, Jesus Christ. All other nations had degenerated to the worship of idols and diabolical activity. But God led and taught the Jewish people through His patriarchs, prophets, and others.
Upon His coming, Our Redeemer abrogated the Jewish faith, the Old Law, in favor of the New Faith, the New Law. He instructed His Apostles to “go out to the whole world and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever that I have commanded you.” (Mt 28:16-20)
Christ is the Head of the true Church; and He created the office of the papacy when He said to Peter, “Upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Mt 16:18). By the gates of hell, He meant all the power of the devil—all kinds of attacks, physical violence as well as false teaching. It is important to note that the pope is not God and is not infallible in his person or personal beliefs, but he is the visible head of the Catholic Church on earth. Many popes have been saints and others very weak and even wicked men, but the Church is enabled to lead people to eternal salvation by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit Who gives it life, enabling the true Church to Teach, to Sanctify and to Rule the faithful in the name of Christ.
