One day recently, when the headlines were filled with doom and gloom on all fronts and the Evil One was obviously causing havoc in extra-ordinary ways,
I came upon these words in the breviary:
My God stands by me, all my trust is in Him!
I find refuge in Him, and I am truly free,[because] all my trust is in Him!
It was for me a real “epiphany,” as some say, a moment of experiencing vividly the closeness of Christ Whose words gave me all the assurance I needed in that moment, filling my heart with peace and joy.
Moreover, the reading before that response was from St. John’s first letter:
“We have seen for ourselves, and can testify, that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. When anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwells in him and he in God! 1Jn 4:14-15
I made again that acknowledgment and felt the assurance. The joyous celebration of Christmas – of Christ’s birth in Bethlehem to the Blessed Virgin Mary, is the very source of this assurance! The Father has indeed sent His Son as our Savior as the Angel assured the Shepherds, “Do not be afraid, for today your Savior has been born for you!” Christ, the Son of God, became flesh and dwelt among us! He is the shining Light of God that dispels the darkness of sin and evil. He is the proclamation of the Word by the Father speaking and generating Truth itself to overcome every falsehood and lie. He is the Power
of God made present among us, and if he is for us, who can be against us?!
My God stands by me!
My God dwells with me!
My God is my refuge!
All my trust is in Him! And I am at peace.
All of us in Miles Jesu – Domus and Vinculum Members – pray and wish for all of you and your family members, our friends and benefactors, that you may enjoy the heartfelt joy and reassurance of the Lord standing by you and dwelling with you this Christmas and throughout the New Year of 2019!
Let’s pray that His light, grace, and truth may shine brightly this Christmas Season to dispel the darkness and heaviness of our hearts entirely and enlighten the hearts of all people around the world, so they, too, may see and come to believe that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the World!
Merry Christmas to you all!
