Dear Friend in Christ,

Our Soup Kitchen in the city center of L’Viv, Ukraine, started very simply many years ago and is presently open from Monday through Friday. Zoriana, MJ, tells us, “Road repairs in front of our building that started in May 2020 and weren’t completed until December 2020 added to the inconvenience of the quarantine that forced people to take food with them rather than eat indoors at the Soup Kitchen. This has created some inconvenience for our visitors, but people are understanding and grateful that we have continued to help them.”

“More people come to the Soup Kitchen in winter. Some of our visitors come early in the morning, despite the cold and sometimes unfavorable weather, queuing up and waiting for the time of food delivery. To the questions ‘Why do you come so early? Aren’t you cold? Do you want to wait that long?’ they answer that the wait gives them the opportunity to communicate with each other.”

“It is difficult to count the number of visitors each day because the queue is constantly moving with some coming and others leaving, but we estimate around 100 people or more are served with a total of about 110 liters of soup, 55 liters of milk porridge, 55 liters of tea and 26 loaves of bread (1 loaf for 4-5 people).  Our visitors offer high praise of our soup and some come specifically for the milk porridge because no other soup kitchens in L’Viv offer that!”
