Ministering in Rome

Dear Friend in Christ,

Mary, MJ from Nigeria is currently staying with the Rome ladies’ community as part of her formation. She tells us about one of the Miles Jesu apostolates she has been helping with during her time there.

“The members of Miles Jesu community in Rome continue their apostolate with the poor and the number of people who need our help is increasing. Every week when walking in Vatican square we meet homeless people asking for something to eat. We can see that they are really in need and very hungry. We bring them a sandwich together with a fruit, egg, biscuit and drink. Usually there are more people than the sandwiches that we are able to bring along that day. We see how very grateful they are for our help.”

“There is a man we see regularly who is very talented in drawing landscapes. Very beautiful pictures! He is drawing them in order to provide a small earning for himself. He told us once that he knows it’s not much, but he is doing his best. He always welcomes us with a smile and kindness and never complains about his situation.
He is always very grateful for the food we give him and the time we spend talking with him.”

 “There is also another group of poor families living close to our community who we visit monthly. We provide them with some basic food items and spend some time listening and talking with them. This brings happiness on both sides! They are grateful for the help received for their families and children and the small savings in their budgets which helps them provide for medical and educational expenses. We are glad, too, that we can help those in need and are praying for them, hoping that our friendship will bring them closer to Our Lord, who is the only One who can truly satisfy all our needs and desires.”
