Dear Friend in Christ,
Lucia Okonofua, MJ, tells us about her mission in Nimo, Nigeria: “I work in the government school in a neighboring town, where I teach English and Economics to a total of 120 students from Junior secondary and Senior third level (10 to 18 years of age). I am also the Teacher Coordinator for young Catholic students at the school. Once a week we meet for moral instruction that includes solid Catholic teaching on human sexuality and abortion.
“Many of these kids come from problematic homes, and more than a few have suffered from serious abuse. An example is Adaobi, an 11-year old girl who was routinely sexually abused by older boys during her primary school years. In a way it became a habit for young Adaobi to allow herself to be exposed to her abusers. Fortunately, after instruction and counseling, Adaobi has decided to stop giving opportunities for abuse. I’ve noticed a big change in her. She is more peaceful. She respects herself now.
“Our women’s community here continues to teach and care for children at both the government school and at our small Catholic school in Nimo. Conditions are very poor, but we do our best with academic and moral instruction, to lead our children to a positive and productive future. We certainly need help, though.”
Please help our Miles Jesu Missions today, such as our Needy Children’s program in Nimo, Nigeria. Your sacrifice of a large gift, a monthly pledge or whatever you can afford, truly makes all the difference. In Miles Jesu we pray for our benefactors daily at Mass and in our holy hours and rosaries because the Miles Jesu Missions depend upon God’s help through people like you.
