The high school where I teach had a retreat recently for a group of 30 students and invited me to take part. My talk was at the very beginning and it entailed going over the ups and downs of one’s life so that the teens could see that difficulties are a part of life, and God never leaves us trapped in our own misery but always surrounds us with His mercy. All we need to do is accept it.

The leaders of the retreat were some of the older students from the school. Among them was a 16 year old girl who gave an explanation of what love is. I would like to share some quotes from her:

“Love has no limits. It is not measured by the deeds or the quality of the deeds, but by the compassion and the thoughtfulness that accompany them.”

“Service is not about giving up your time to feel better, but giving love to someone who has nobody left to love them back.”

“Love is expressed in sacrifice and compassion.”

“In order to give love to others, one must be willing to accept love from God first.”

“No matter what, you are loved. There is ALWAYS someone in your life who loves you and that person is God Himself.”

January 22 marks the anniversary of the despicable, monstrous decision by the United States Supreme Court which legalized abortion in the USA. Some try to justify abortion by claiming that a child will not be loved if it had not been planned for and desired by the parents. But I would respond with one of the quotes from above – “There is ALWAYS someone in your life who loves you and that person is God Himself.”
