Lifting Up the Poor

Dear Friend in Christ,

The Miles Jesu Women’s Community in Rome continues their apostolate to the poor in and around Vatican square. Geraldine, MJ, pictured above with Maria from Germany, writes, “Every Thursday we feed forty people, bringing them a bag of food that contains a sandwich, a boiled egg, juice, cookies and fruit. Along with the food distributed with a big smile, we bring words of hope and encouragement to trust in the Lord and His providence.”

“I am always struck by a mother and son from Romania who both sleep on the streets. Whenever they see us, they are very happy, and the mother always asks us for three sandwiches – one for her and two for her son because she says, ‘He is big and eats a lot.’ Once someone gave them some chocolate cookies and they offered to share them with us. That surprised me because they have practically nothing, but even with the little they have, they are willing to share.
