Dear Friend in Christ,
“We try to work according to this principle at St. Joseph’s Soup Kitchen.” Zoriana, MJ, director of the Miles Jesu Soup Kitchen tells us. “Daily work in a charitable institution is not popular or prestigious (in the opinion of the modern world). It does not bring you fame or fortune and sometimes not even a simple “thank you” from those we serve. So what we do is more about service than work. Sometimes, when worries threaten to overwhelm me, I ask myself: ‘Why am I doing this?’ Then I remember Jesus’ words: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me” (Mt. 25:40). In addition to food (feeding the hungry), I can give our guests a kind word and a smile and, in response, a smile blooms on their faces. When I try to do my work conscientiously — “as if for the Lord” — I experience how God cares for us, how He works in our life. He makes sure that we lack nothing. This spring, although the fruit trees were blooming, we had frost and people were worried that there would be no harvest. But God is good and we had enough to share. Our apple tree bore so much fruit that for a whole month I have been carrying apples to our Soup Kitchen, where we distribute them to people and make compotes! I thank God for His generosity towards us. I thank God for opening our hearts to others. And I thank all the benefactors whose generosity helps us help others! May the Lord reward you a hundredfold!”
Your help is needed to continue our work in Ukraine. Please help Miles Jesu today! Your sacrificial gift of whatever your means allows, truly makes all the difference. Just send your tax-deductible donation in the enclosed envelope along with your prayer petitions. In Miles Jesu we take our benefactors seriously and pray for you and your loved ones during our daily Mass, our holy hours and rosaries. This is our debt of gratitude, since the Miles Jesu Missions depend upon the Providence of God through people like you.
