Dear Friend in Christ,

Her life story is at once heart-wrenching and inspiring. Rhema belongs to the ‘untouchables,’ the lowest place in the caste-system of India. Married at age 13 to a man 12 years older, Rhema gave birth to one child after another, all five of them girls. No sons! She was considered cursed and this provoked the violence of her husband and his family. They beat her and then drove her from the house into the streets of Mumbai with her five daughters. She labored 12 hours a day in repairing roads but didn’t earn enough to feed her girls; as a result, three of them died of malnutrition. She returned to her husband’s house only to receive more violent beatings. To protect his name, she never complained to her family about him; and when her cruel and abusive mother-in-law was dying, it was Rhema who cared for her. Rhema began a search for healing and deliverance. She came to our home for a prayer meeting and cried and cried for two hours. She said she felt the love of Jesus Who spoke to her, “Do not worry; I will take away all of your pain.” Her husband noticed a change in her and, after 45 years, began speaking to her again. She told him all that had happened and how she had met the god of the Christians. Rhema took him to the Miles Jesu house where he was prayed over and healed of his own spiritual maladies. Now he and Rhema come together to the Miles Jesu house for prayer.
