Dear Friend in Christ,

“Greetings from the Rome ladies’ community!,” says Sondra, MJ, who besides being immersed in the Italian language is also immersed in different activities our consecrated ladies engage in to help the poor, both native Italians and immigrants, according to their immediate need for food. Sondra tells us about one such activity:

“Once a week we make sack lunches to take to the homeless living around St. Peter’s Square. For Christmas, instead of the usual sandwiches, we were able to make them a hot meal of spaghetti with meatballs, bread and salad. Whenever we go with our cart full of lunches, the people recognize us and say they have been wondering about us. It is very nice to see familiar faces and see that they are doing well. Recently we have seen many new faces, many from Poland. The Vatican provides free showers for the homeless which are located under the colonnade of St. Peter’s Square. Walking past them one wouldn’t even realize how many homeless people are waiting around for their turn to take a shower, as they blend in with the tourists. When we open our cart to give out food, at least 30 people approach us, and the religious sisters who are overseeing the showers send people out to us, sometimes with a face still full of shaving cream! In total we serve 40 people and we spend between 50 to 100 euros a week, depending on if it is a hot or a cold meal. We are glad to make a difference, doing what we are able and called to do.”

Please help our Miles Jesu Missions today, such as our charitable outreach for the poor in Rome. Your sacrifice of a monthly pledge or a one-time gift truly makes all the difference. In Miles Jesu we pray for our benefactors daily with gratitude because the Miles Jesu Missions depend upon God’s help through people like you.
