Dear Friend in Christ,
“During the years that I have been working at the Miles Jesu Soup Kitchen in L’Viv, Ukraine, seeing all those people who come to us (especially pensioners whose pension is too small to live on), I thought that we (a large part of Ukrainians) have a hard life,” reports Zoriana, MJ.
“I thought that, until the moment when Russian troops invaded the eastern territory of Ukraine in February 2022 and began bombing our towns and villages. That’s when many people from those territories fled to L’viv in the west. It was really hard then. There was a lot of work helping people and we had to adapt to new realities. Later on, we saw and heard several explosions of rockets near us; fortunately, we were only frightened but not harmed, and we were grateful to God for the gift of life, for a new day, and for a peaceful night. We then learned to live with the sounds of air alarm sirens.
In October 2022, Russian missiles almost destroyed our energy supply systems in L’viv, but the Soup Kitchen has been able to continue providing food for the poor, the homeless, and displaced people who continue to come, despite the air alarm sirens and lack of light during certain hours. When it’s dark outside, we use battery-powered flashlights and headlamps so we can work ‘hands free.’ Fortunately, we have water and gas to cook the food; but when there is no electric, the water is cold and there is no heat. Often understanding becomes clearer by comparison. And I understand now that life here was not so bad for us and we have much for which to be grateful to God.”
Please help our Miles Jesu Missions today, such as our Soup Kitchen in L’Viv, Ukraine. Your sacrifice of a large gift, a monthly pledge, or whatever you can give, truly makes all the difference. In Miles Jesu we pray for our benefactors daily at Mass and in our holy hours and rosaries because the Miles Jesu Missions depend upon God’s help through people like you.
