Dear Friend in Christ,
“Prajwal and Prakash, two brothers aged 13 and 12, were living with their illiterate and impoverished parents here in India”, Fr. Thomas, MJ, tells us. “The parents worked on a coconut farm and rice field that was managed by the parish priest. All was fine until the priest was transferred and his replacement did not renew their contract. In order to provide for the family, the father opened a small shop selling very basic household needs like soap and matches, but the income was insufficient to feed the whole family. That is why last June the boys were brought to live and to resume their studies with us at Udaya Nakshatra Home for Boys.”
“Last November the father noticed a small blotch on his cheek which he didn’t bother to have checked. The blotch got bigger and more and more painful. The doctors told him that it was cancerous. After two or three surgeries the doctors told him there was nothing further that they could do. When the cancer began decaying the infected area and emitting a foul smell, they tried one more hospital that was run by sisters who attended him until he expired a month later. The family has lost its bread winner. The mother is struggling to find work. With your support we will help her as much as we can, and the two boys will return here to the Home when school reopens.”
