“I tell you, I moved into this new building a couple weeks ago and I still get lost finding my own apartment.” Jane appeared to be in her late 50s. I know some of the apartment complexes in Phoenix are so huge and winding that even Einstein would get lost in them.
She told me her husband died a few months ago and she had to downsize to a small apartment. Jane also told me she recently started chemotherapy for cancer, and it was challenging. “I can’t drive too much anymore so I really appreciate this service.” Jane leaned forward and put her hand on my shoulder. She said that if it weren’t for her service at a community youth center, she would be all alone because she hadn’t made many friends in her apartment complex.
I told her how I spend time doing youth work as well for the Catholic Church. “Don’t you hate it when you refer to someone like Bob Hope and they say who’s Bob Hope?” “Yes! Or who’s Tom Cruise?”
Jane explained she is a baptized Catholic but didn’t like the music, so she has been going to the Evangelical Mega-Church. I told Jane, “What really does it for me in the Catholic Church is the Eucharist. Jesus is there waiting for me in the Blessed Sacrament.”
Right after that Jane said she wants to come back and really practice her Catholic faith. Praise God!! I put her in contact with a very good friend of Miles Jesu who is well known at a parish that is very close to where Jane lives. Isn’t it amazing how God sets things up? We just need to be available to let God use us. What a blessing!
