By the mercy of God, the Cursillo movement in Phoenix asked me to work on the team that led the men’s English-speaking Cursillo in June of this year. As part of the preparation for the retreat, the members of the team go through several months of formation together in order to prepare spiritually, intellectually, logistically, and socially for the Cursillo. The team members become friends over that time and come to realize that we are really brothers in Christ. Out of all the members, each person gets a prayer partner with whom they spend a bit more time in order to provide extra support and brotherhood.

An important part of the formation process is the day of recollection. Because of the timing for it during the lead up to the Cursillo in June, the rector of the Cursillo asked the prayer partners to bring lunch for each other on that day.

Upon arriving for the event, I saw people with bags of food and thought to myself, “Oh, shoot!” I had forgotten about bringing food for my prayer partner. And my partner had brought me an exquisite, Chicago-style beef sandwich! I was distressed but remembered to say a prayer asking our Heavenly Father to provide food for my partner somehow.

Right before the first talk started, another member of the team greeted me and asked how things were going. I said things were good but I had forgotten to bring food for my prayer partner and I felt bad about it. He told me, “No problem. Instead of buying one sub for my prayer partner, I decided to get two in case someone else forgot to bring food. I’ll give it to your prayer partner.”

Thank you, Almighty Father, for providing. Thank you for our generous brothers in Christ.
