Dear Friend in Christ,
Mmesoma, a budding star!
“In May 2023 we stumbled upon a sports competition advertisement under the Anambra State Sports Initiative for primary and secondary students,” Lucia Okonofua, MJ, headmistress of Miles Jesu St. Theresa Nursery and Primary School in Nimo, tells us. “The ad was seeking children talented in athletics to represent the State. St. Theresa School itself does not have enough ground space for sports activities; but we felt that encouraging the children’s participation in this type of program would be one way to expose them to activities beyond their immediate environment. With the aid of the teachers, we submitted the names of ten of our students from different classes to participate in nine qualifying heats for different track events. Mmesomachukwu (meaning “the goodness of God”) excelled in the high jump and long jump, beating the other children who had been going for practice at the sporting facility, and qualified to represent the State at the local government level. The coach was pleasantly surprised and took an interest in her. During the competitions at the local government level, Mmesomachukwu earned a silver medal and a bronze medal in the high jump and long jump events, respectively. Unfortunately, she became very ill and was unable to participate at the qualifying heats for the State event. In spite of that, it was significant that Mmesoma became aware that she has a talent for sports.”
Miles Jesu is only able to support the St. Theresa School in Nigeria, providing a good education and opportunities like the one described above for the less fortunate children in Nimo, Nigeria, because of the generosity of benefactors like you. Please help our Miles Jesu Missions today! Your sacrifice of a monthly pledge or a one-time gift truly makes all the difference. In Miles Jesu we pray for our benefactors daily with gratitude because the Miles Jesu Missions depend upon God’s help through people like you.
