Legalized abortion is, without ANY doubt, the single most important human rights issue of our time. Legalized slavery was, without ANY doubt, the single most important human rights issue in the United States of America from before its founding until after the Civil War. I don’t think I could have lived in such an unjust society that allowed slavery without constantly raising my voice until that injustice was corrected. And so today, with the scourge of abortion surrounding all of us without exception, I want to spend my life working to create a culture of life where the thought of abortion doesn’t even exist.

One time when I was visiting a certain country, I asked a friend from there, “Which party promotes abortion here and which party works against it?” And my friend responded, “There are no political parties here that promote abortion.” And that’s the way it should be in every country, in every place.

Not too long ago, I had surgery to remove something from my skin. It was quick, painless, and relatively easy. My dream is that, in the near future, human culture, skill, and technology will advance enough so that medical professionals will be able to prevent all abortions by safely removing unborn babies very early on in the pregnancy from the wombs of mothers who do not want them and can then place those babies in an environment where they will be loved and nurtured as they continue their normal development. In this way, even women in unimaginably difficult circumstances which tempt them to kill their babies will be more likely to agree to let the babies be removed from their wombs and given the chance to live. The poor women have to go through a horrible medical procedure anyway. Why not do so without sin, death, and guilt? We aren’t far from realizing this dream, if we want to.
