Dear Friend in Christ,
“The rich are not those who possess much, but those who give much, those who are able to give of themselves.” (St. John Paul II)
“The Lord God gave me the opportunity to experience short-term missions in Ukraine”, Majka, a Miles Jesu House of Christian Formation candidate
from Slovakia tells us. “I was in a country where you don’t know if you will actually return home. People here live in uncertainty and fear. I would like to share with you what the missions taught me. Many of us have the heartfelt desire to go to a distant country and be with the people. Often, we have the idea that we are going to change them. But missions are not about that. On the contrary, the missions change the person who goes there. I was able to be with people who don’t know what will happen to them.
I went to help cook for the homeless and help in the local parish. I was with children, met fathers who returned from the front lines, and experienced many other things. The people were incredibly grateful just for me coming to be with them and the experience taught me humility – losing myself, my time, my sleep, my daily regimen, but especially skills. They have a different culture, habits, and attitudes. I realized that I am so small and nothing compared to them. It taught me endless gratitude for what I have, generosity, openness, and many other things. Since this experience, there is only one thing for me – to fulfill God’s will.”
Please help our Miles Jesu Missions today, such as work in Ukraine. Your sacrifice of a monthly pledge or a one-time gift truly makes all the difference. In Miles Jesu we pray for our benefactors daily with gratitude because the Miles Jesu Missions depend upon God’s help through people like you.
