As I mentioned last month, I have a beautiful image of Our Lady of Sorrows on the sun visor in my car. She is there because firstly, I love her. Secondly, because she protects me and my passengers, and thirdly, because she reminds everyone she is here and ready for anyone who acknowledges her or calls on her.
“I really like your Blessed Mother,” commented Beth as she climbed in the cab. She shared that she was baptized Catholic but was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness and didn’t really know much about Catholicism. “Do you want one?” I reached over on the seat next to me and picked up a copy of the same image and handed it to her in the back seat. “It’s yours.” I keep copies to give out to those who want one.
Beth was over the moon! “Thank you! Wow! Thank you!” After a small pause, she said, “The last time someone gave me something like this was when my father gave me a crucifix.” “I thought he was a Jehovah’s Witness?” I asked, a bit perplexed. “Oh! …Well, he didn’t really believe in it. But he told me to keep it to myself and not to tell anyone. I suppose he didn’t want to be found out.” “Yeah, I get it,” I told Beth, but added, “What did Jesus tell us to do?” She was puzzled. “To go out and spread the Gospel, the Good News, to all people.” “Yes! That’s right!” and she thanked me again for the image.
I gave out four images of Our Lady that day.
People are hungry for God, for the Truth, now more than ever. I found this method to be a great way to pass on the Faith. I always try to carry mine on my sleeve. That way it is always out and in the open. I like to be especially open about having a devotion to Mary. I have great reason for this. Mary saved me, and I want people to know that, and that she is here to bring all of us to her Son.
