Dear Friend in Christ,

Olia, MJ, from our women’s community in Birky, Ukraine, tells us, “At present we have six girls in the orphanage – three schoolgirls and three older students – plus several former residents that we are assisting in different ways. Since most of the year our country was quarantined, we could not organize trips, so we worked more in the parish and helping friends. We harvested potatoes in the fall for one older woman whose son died last year and whose husband is an alcoholic. Her son had sustained injuries in the war, fell ill, and never fully recovered. This was a good experience for the girls because they learned both to take care of the needy and how to grow vegetables. The girls also helped a lot at home with shoveling snow, mowing grass, cleaning the house, cooking, etc.”

“We take advantage of every opportunity to work with each of the girls individually. The psychologist comes twice per week to work with the girls in overcoming various problems resulting from their earlier family life (i.e. mental illness, alcoholism, etc.). One of the girls was already an alcoholic at age three because her mother regularly gave her alcohol. We have gone through some quite difficult moments helping her and are still working through others. It is not easy for her to talk about her emotions; however, her involvement with our camp projects has made her more open to people. She has not been drinking for many years and thinks about the future, has plans and dreams. We ask God to make the lives of these girls different from the lives of their parents. We are very grateful to all those who helped in this. May God bless them and their families.”

Please help our Miles Jesu Missions today, such as our women’s community and girls’ home in Ukraine. Your sacrifice of a monthly pledge or a one-time gift truly makes all the difference. In Miles Jesu we pray for our benefactors daily with gratitude because the Miles Jesu Missions depend upon God’s help through people like you.

Please help our Miles Jesu Missions today.
