Dear Friend in Christ,
“It looks like the government is getting ready to impose martial law,” Andriy recently told us with regard to the situation in Ukraine. “Ruslan, the Director of our Boys’ Home in Bortniky where we have 28 kids, was called to military duty but then excused because he is the court-appointed legal guardian for 15 of the kids at Bortniky whose parents are either dead, on drugs, or in jail.
“At our men’s community in L’Viv we have been using our recently renovated conference hall for more than just parish and prayer group meetings—for the past few months Roman, a 36-year old refugee from eastern Ukraine, has been staying in the small guest room of the conference hall. His parents just joined him recently, having fled from their home in the east saying that the fighting there is too severe.
“At our Girls’ Home in Birky (just outside of L’Viv), Olga told me how they have stocked up on dry goods such as rice, pasta, beans, etc. for our 14 abandoned or orphaned girls in the face of runaway inflationary prices. The local currency (hrivny) was at 26 to 1 USD in February; whereas last year it was 8 hrivny to 1 USD. Prices keep climbing at an alarmingly fast rate. We need help.”
Please help our Miles Jesu Missions today, such as our work in Ukraine. Your sacrifice of a large gift, a monthly pledge, or whatever you can afford, truly makes all the difference. In Miles Jesu we pray for our benefactors daily at Mass and in our holy hours and rosaries because the Miles Jesu Missions depend upon God’s help through people like you.
Yours in Jesus through Mary,
Fr. Romeo Salcido, MJ
