“A psychological therapist comes to the house twice a week to speak with the children,” reports Olia, MJ, from our Girls’ Home in Birky, Ukraine. “She is very good. For the girls it is voluntary, and many of them go to her. Because all of the children come from problem families, each of them is dealing with undeserved shame and traumas from their younger troubled past.

“For example, Roxana’s mom told her to go to her stepfather’s father. She told ten-year old Roxana, ‘he wants to speak with you.’ The older man touched her inappropriately on repeated occasions. This created confusion in Roxana’s mind and heart because she was doing what her mother told her to do. She thought it was okay.

Since she came to the Birky home as still a child, Roxana has been overly interested in boys. The psychologist said, ‘She is looking for love; these girls who don’t have a father in their lives are looking in the boys for a father.’ Roxana is now 18 and sees the psychologist regularly and, thanks be to God,
is becoming more mature and secure as a result.”
