“Girls? People who know that we are dedicated to helping boys at our Udaya Nakshatra Boys’ Home in Sirsi, India, ask if we ever help any girls. Sure we do! And we have a special fund for it,” Fr. Thomas Cahill, MJ, tells us. “This past May we covered the cost of dental braces for Saina, 16, the granddaughter of Mai,
one of the original cooks at the Boys’ Home, and also for Grace, 14, from Gandavli slum, Mumbai. They are grateful with tears for this help that their parents could never have afforded. We look forward to seeing their happy smiles.”
“Over the past five years we have paid the full school fees for about 15 girls. We paid the final exam fee for Sushita, a promising college student from a very poor family, who had given up hope of being able to graduate. And there was Shanti who about four years ago was in a terrible motorcycle accident. It was raining, and a bus hit them head-on killing her father and her older sister and leaving Shanti in a coma for two months. Her mother was on the verge of selling the family house in order to pay the medical fees for Shanti. Fortunately, we heard about it before her mother sold the house. Today Shanti has recovered and is with her mother and another sister in the family house. We could not have done any of this without your help. Thank you for your support of the Miles Jesu Missions in India!”
